| Sample English (Writing) Test | Sample Reading Test | Sample Mathematics Test |
All students at Eastern must demonstrate basic skills in writing,
reading and mathematics. The University measures these basic
skill proficiencies by the student's performance on the ACT,
SAT and local placement tests. In the case of transfer students,
the University also considers coursework at the previous institution.
Students with ACT scores below 18 in English, mathematics or reading are required to take placement tests to help ensure appropriate course placement. Students identified through testing as needing additional help in any basic skill area are required to enroll in and successfully complete developmental courses designed to improve their skills for that area.
Students have only one opportunity to demonstrate proficiency through placement testing, therefore, they need to take this testing opportunity seriously.
Students are permitted to use a standard scientific calculator on the Mathematics Placement Test. The University does not provide calculators.
