Credit-by-Examination Procedures

The enrolled, admitted, or applicant student should observe the following procedure when attempting to earn academic credit through the Eastern Kentucky University Credit by Examination program.  The student will:

1. Review the Credit by Examination course list. This list is available for perusal in the Student Services Building room 340 or on the Office of Academic Testing web site and will list the courses which are currently available for this program.
2. Identify the course or courses which he/she feels competent to attempt to pass the examination.
3. Note the type of examination required (APP, CLEP, Departmental, or other).
 

APP = Advanced Placement Program
CLEP = College-Level Examination Program
Departmental = Eastern Kentucky University department based
Other = other authorized credit by examination tests

4. Obtain a request to attempt Credit-by-Examination application form in the Office of Academic Testing, Student Services Building 340. This form will be needed to schedule and take credit-by-examination test.
5. Get his/her academic advisor and the chair of the department offering the course to approve Credit by Examination and sign the application form. Approval and signatures of the chairperson and the dean of the college offering the course must be obtained for an examination in a course which has been failed. Also, at the time of the exam, verification must be obtained from his/her advisor, director, or chairperson that the Credit by Examination course or courses are applicable to her/his academic and/or certification program.
6. Review the eligibility criteria cited on the application form and sign the form attesting to his/her eligibility.
7. Take the completed application form to the Office of Academic Testing.
8. Pay Credit-by-Examination fees at the Billings and Collections office in Student Services Building 210. The receipt from this payment must be presented before being allowed into the testing room.
9. Report for the examination on designated date and time in the assigned location.
10. Present the fee payment receipt and a valid ID before entering the testing room.
